What is commercial auto liability insurance?
Liability coverage is mandatory to operate and provides important protection for your business. Bodily injury and property damage liability coverages provide compensation for injuries to others, and for the damage your vehicle does to another person’s property if you cause an accident. Customers choose a commercial auto liability limit that meets their business needs. If required by law, Northland makes prompt Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and State motor carrier filings to keep you on the road.

- Identity theft protection. This is automatically included in primary liability policies and provides for $2,500 of defense costs against identity theft claims.
- Family emergency travel. This is automatically included in primary liability policies at no additional cost. Optional coverage
Optional coverage availability may vary by state.
- For intermodal haulers. Our endorsement meets the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) requirements.
- Coverage for hired auto and non-owned. This may be needed for fleets or for contractual requirements of shippers.
- Trailer interchange coverage. This provides legal liability coverage for a loss to a non-owned trailer in the customer’s possession under a written trailer or equipment interchange agreement.
- Garage keepers’ coverage. This provides legal liability protection for physical damage to a non-owned auto while in the customer’s possession for service, repair, storage, or towing. This protection is usually necessary if the motor carrier has a repair facility and mechanics who work on equipment owned by others.
- Non-trucking liability (bobtail). This provides liability protection for owner-operators when not operating as a motor carrier or under dispatch for a motor carrier.
- Deductible reimbursement. This may be purchased to pay the owner-operator back for certain deductible amounts paid to the fleet for damages from a covered cargo or liability loss per the lease agreement.
